Drug therapy

Depending on the type of stroke, the doctor may prescribe aspirin or other medicine to thin the blood so as to prevent a recurrent stroke. Medication may also be given for high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or heart disease. It is important that this be taken as prescribed and that dietary advice is followed.
