Happy hearts - Raffle winners collect prizes

Lisa Fraser, second left, of Virgin Atlantic Airways, presents Robert Carter, third left, with his prize tickets to London. Looking on are Adrian Randall and Jennifer Randall of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados.

The big draw in the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados’ Grand Fundraising Raffle took place at the Foundation’s headquarters on October 6th 2007, and a Christ Church man flew away with the prized trip for two to London compliments Virgin Atlantic Airways.

A happy Robert Carter of Christ Church recently collected his first prize of two Return Premium Economy tickets Barbados/London on Virgin Atlantic Airways at the airline’s office on Hastings Main Road, Christ Church. Making the presentation was Virgin Atlantic’s Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator Lisa Fraser who said that the airline was very happy to be able to make the contribution to the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. She wished Mr. Carter an enjoyable flight and a pleasant stay in London. Mr. Carter’s London holiday will be made even more memorable since he also won, as part of the first prize, a 5-night stay in a luxury London Hotel, 22 Jermyn Street, plus BDS$500 spending money.

Second prize was a 5-night stay for two at Tamarind Cove Hotel, on Barbados’ West Coast, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. This was won by the London Life and Casualty (Barbados) Corporation.

The third prize of a D900 Samsung Cellphone, compliments of Digicel, was won by Mrs. Jean Robinson, of St. George, while the forth prize, an Exercise Bike donated by DaCosta Mannings, went to the accounting firm KPMG.

These prizes were all recently presented at the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s headquarters on Jemmotts Lane.

Administration and Fundraising Manager, Jennifer Randall, congratulated the winners and thanked all those who participated in the fund-raising venture, which raised just over $13,000. She noted that the Foundation undertakes several fundraising drives in the course of the year in order to raise funds to assist in covering operating expenses.

She in particular thanked the sponsors for their contributions. She said that the Foundation relies to a large extent on the business community for funds and other assistance to carry out its work and projects.
