The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados has benefited
tremendously from the generous decision of the Barbados Community Foundation to
offer sponsorship to a number of persons participating in the Cardiovascular
Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation programme, popularly known as “the gym
with a difference.”
The Foundation’s donation of $900.00 per month began in July
this year, and helps to meet the cost of clients with heart-related ailments,
but who were not able to pay for the use of the facility, to join the programme
and rehabilitate in a controlled and supervised environment.
The CDP&R programme offers specific rehabilitation and
prevention through regular prescribed and monitored exercise, dietary and
psychological counselling to persons who have had heart surgery, a heart attack,
heart failure, a stroke or are at special risk.
Sarah Clarke, project and donations manager of the Barbados
Community Foundation said that they were happy to contribute to the good work of
the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados, noting that the Community Foundation
focuses on projects and programmes that worked to improve community life for
Barbadians.
The Community Foundation also funds many non-medical
projects.
