ECC Manager moves on
After just a short time with the Heart &
Stroke Foundation of Barbados (HSFB), Ricardo Thompson is moving
on. Mr. Thompson joined the Foundation as Emergency Cardiac Care
(ECC) Manager in February this year, and is understood to be
taking up a position overseas. Many thanks, Ricky, for the time
spent and the energy given, and best wishes for a bright future.
The ECC Manager overseas the HSFB's many
training programmes, which are integral to the Foundation's
outreach to the community and it's mission to keep people heart
healthy and reduce suffering and death from heart disease and
stroke.
These include Basic Life Support (BLS) and
Heart Saver and First Aid courses which are provided for the
general public, health care providers and medical students.
Training is also provided in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
to medical doctors and health care workers. There is, as well,
an intensive training course for medical, nursing and paramedic
personnel in Paediatric Life
Support.
Persons who are qualified and are interested
in applying for the position of ECC Manager may contact the
Chief Executive Officer of the HSFB.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Foundation is also seeking to recruit
volunteer instructors for the BLS and First Aid training
programmes. Training in the various skills will be given to
successful candidates, and this will be followed up by
instructor training. Here is an exciting opportunity for
persons, not only to learn these important “chain of survival”
skills, but also to pass on the knowledge to others.
Training courses are conducted for schools,
youth and community groups, businesses and other organizations.
A stipend is given to volunteers, and there is the possibility
of travelling overseas, as courses are conducted across the
region, including Jamaica, St. Lucia, Dominica and St. Kitts.
