Coming
in from the cold and warming things up with her sunny personality was Anne
Desrosiers of Ottawa, Canada, who was attached to the CDP&R (Gym with a
difference) programme at the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados over six
weeks from January 1st to February 11th 2007.
Anne, 28, is a 3rd (final) year nursing school student at
Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and the attachment at the
Foundation was a completion of the community portion of her educational
placement.
During her stint she joined with other nurses in the CDP&R
in monitoring the exercise programme and activities of the clients, and in
helping to organize educational lectures for them on a variety of topics,
including exercise, medication, cardiac procedures and nutrition. “Basically. It
was about teaching people how to be healthier”she said.
Why Barbados?
“Well, I have family and friends here” she said, “and I have been coming to
Barbados on visits for the past 10 years. Frankly, I couldn’t think of any other
place I’d rather go to complete my education.”
“It gave me a chance to do some serious work, and enjoy the beach at the same
time” quipped Anne, whose hobbies are running, swimming and reading. She thanked
the staff and clients of the CDP&R for their kindness and for making her stay in
Barbados and at the Foundation so enjoyable.
