Professor Hassell joins World Heart Body
Professor
Trevor Hassell, Senior Cardiologist, Founding President of the
Heart Foundation of Barbados, and Director of Medical Services
of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital was recently elected to the
Board of the World Heart Federation, which is a membership
organization composed of 180 member societies of cardiology and
Heart Foundations from 100 countries and continental members
covering the regions of Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas and
Africa.
The Board of the World Heart Federation is
responsible for conducting all matters and activities of the
organization, including its many world-wide programmes that aim
to build awareness about heart disease, its prevention, and
treatment. The world heart body conducts advocacy programmes,
and has established a number of best practice demonstration
projects in selected member countries. It assists in building
capacity to tackle heart disease within countries and is the
host of several congresses and meetings for heart specialists.
The board of the federation recently met in
New York when, among other things, it finalized plans for the
holding of the World Congress of Cardiology, which is a meeting
of cardiologists from around the world, scheduled to be held in
Barcelona, Spain, in September of this year.
Professor Hassell is also President of the InterAmerican
Heart Foundation.
