Open day at CDP&R
Members of the public took the opportunity to learn more
about the Cardiac Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation programme of the Heart
Foundation of Barbados (HFOB) when that unit celebrated its 10th anniversary at
an Open Day at the HFOB’s headquarters on Jemmotts Lane.
The all-day event began at 10 a.m. with a short opening
ceremony, which was addressed by the HFOB’s CEO, Adrian Randall, president Dru
Symmonds SCM, J.P., Dr. Colin Alert, honorary medical director of the CDP&R Unit, and
Shirley Gill, the CDP&R’s programme director. The featured speaker was Dr.
Elizabeth Ferdinand, Chief Medical Officer.
During the ceremony several organizations and individuals
were presented with awards for their outstanding service and contribution to the
CDP&R programme. Recognition was also given to two clients who had been with the
programme from inception.
Visitors were also treated to displays of a range of
products and services related to health, in particular heart health, set up by a
number of businesses and agencies. These included Carib Rehab, Stokes & Bynoe
Ltd., and BICO Ltd. There was also a demonstration of healthy alternatives for
heart healthy eating by Hazel Fergusson RN.
Spectrol Laboratories was on hand to give free cholesterol,
blood and sugar testing, and blood pressure checks were given at the CDP&R desk.
CDP&R clients mounted a pleasing display of craft. An
enjoyable and informative visit was topped off by a fine selection of heart
healthy, tasty snacks.
