Heartline Magazine January - March 2005
CEO’s Outlook
Adrian J.L. Randall Chief Executive
Officer
Since being appointed CEO of the Heart Foundation in
September 2004, I have been spending most of my time attempting to raise the
profile of the organisation. It certainly is an exciting time for us in our
development growth as we promote our mission, which is:
‘To keep people heart healthy and
reduce suffering and death from cardiovascular disease’
In order to do this there are five key strategic areas in
our Strategy Document 2004 - 2006:
‘To create and maintain an effective team of Board of
Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Members’
‘To institutionally strengthen the HFOB’
‘To provide best quality advice, training and management of
cardiovascular prevention and care’
‘To educate the public and promote an awareness of
cardiovascular health issues and the role of the HFOB’
‘To develop projects and programmes which generate funds for
the HFOB’
The last five months for the Foundation has been extremely
busy as we have:
• Produced our Annual Operating Plan
• Launched a new website on 22nd November: www.hfob.org
• Revamped Heartline and increased its circulation
• Initiated the first mass first aid training exercise Care
for Life – attended by nearly 200 persons
• Strengthened our organisation structure
• Brought the accounting function in-house using QuickBooks
• Introduced an Annual Marketing Plan
• Celebrated the tenth anniversary of the CDP&R Centre at an
Open Day
• Commenced a weekly interview series on CBC’s The Chat Room
• Increased significantly press coverage in both The
Advocate and Daily Nation
• Updated our membership data base
• Launched a survey of Barbadian’s knowledge, attitudes and
practices (KAPs) of/to heart disease
• Held the annual World Heart Day lecture
All these objectives could not have been achieved without
financial support. Therefore additional efforts are being made to raise funds to
support the increased activity of the Foundation. These efforts include:
• Launching an upmarket grand raffle where the first prize
is a BMW 520 series and tickets are priced at $200
• Increased marketing of the CDP&R programme to reach more
individuals
• A drive to increase membership
• Sponsorship approaches to Corporate Barbados
• A joint fundraising function with the Arnott Cato
Foundation 21 March 2005
• Campaigning for increased covenants
• Increased advertising revenue in Heartline
So plans for the future are very much based around “more of
the same” as they say. In addition what else is on the horizon:
• Participation in the Nation’s Healthy Lifestyle
Extravaganza – Sunday 10th April
• April Love’s Ball – Saturday 30th April.
• TV Media Campaign re KAPs - May.
• The holding of the fourth annual Emergency Cardiac Care
Conference Friday 17th – Sunday 19th June.
• Re-launch of the Business and Professional Seminar –
Thursday 7th July.
However the biggest challenge that we face as we move to the
next level continues to be raising the funds to finance the achievement of the
agreed objectives.
So please do ring us now on 437 3312 to order your tickets
for ‘An Evening of Music” featuring The Barbados Youth Orchestra. This excellent
entertainment takes place at the end of the Holders Season on Monday 21st March
and tickets are $100 available from Holders Box Office or from the Foundation.
How about trying to win that car or one of the other
excellent prizes available. Again please do call in and get your ticket.
