Hundreds of people of all ages braved the threat of cloudy
skies to get “phy-sea-cal” at the Nation Publishing Company's Movement Fest 2007
at Brandons Beach, off Spring Garden Highway, last April 7. They played, danced,
walked and exercised for five solid hours, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., through a
number of events, all designed to encourage awareness of healthy living and
fitness.
The Heart &
Stroke Foundation of Barbados (HSFB), as always, played a leading role in the
proceedings. Staff and volunteers of Foundation were on hand to give blood
pressure checks and CPR demonstrations to the steady stream of people who passed
through their stall. Over 400 blood pressure tests were conducted.
HSFB's representatives took the opportunity to distribute leaflets and posters
with tips and information on the various activities and programmes of the
Foundation. Entry forms for the Essay and Poster Competition for primary school
students were also handed out.
Another popular stall was that of Spectrol Laboratories
where persons were able to get free blood tests. The Barbados Road Safety
Association was also on hand with demonstrations and tips on road safety.
Altogether it was a fun day for all, with health products on display, a
well-stocked food court, and several activities, including volleyball,
paddleball, aerobics and dance. Youngsters enjoyed Kids Zone sponsored by Ocean
Park, and there was Barbados Blue Water Sports' Kayaking, miniature golf,
swimming, snorkeling, diving, and many other activities to choose from.
One of the highlights of the day was a seven-a-side beach
cricket match featuring some of the Cricket Legends of Barbados against a team
of younger players. The legends won on experience!
